The short version: Plaza does not collect, store, or sell your personal information. We have no accounts, no tracking, and no data brokers. Your money moves between you and the people you pay — we are only the conduit.

Overview

Plaza BTC ("Plaza," "we," "our") is a Bitcoin Lightning point-of-sale application built for merchants and customers who believe in sovereign, self-custodial commerce.

This policy applies to the Plaza BTC mobile application (iOS) and any associated backend infrastructure operated by Plaza Technologies LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company.

Data We Collect

Plaza collects the minimum data required to operate the payment terminal:

Transaction amounts — the sats or fiat value entered at time of payment, stored transiently to generate invoices
Lightning invoices — BOLT11 payment requests generated on your behalf, which are ephemeral and expire
NWC connection strings — stored locally on your device only, never transmitted to Plaza servers
Crash and error logs — anonymous technical diagnostics to improve app stability, containing no personal identifiers

No data is linked to your identity. No account is required to use Plaza.

Data We Do Not Collect

To be explicit about our commitment to your privacy:

No name, email address, or phone number
No location data or GPS coordinates
No biometric data
No advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID)
No browsing history or behavioral profiles
No contacts, photos, or device files
No seed phrases, private keys, or wallet credentials

Wallet Connections (NWC)

Plaza connects to Lightning wallets using the Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) open protocol. Your NWC connection string is:

Stored exclusively on your local device in encrypted app storage
Never transmitted to Plaza servers or any third party
Used only to request invoice generation and payment confirmation from your own wallet

You are always in control. Revoking a connection from your wallet provider immediately and permanently severs Plaza's access.

Lightning Payments

Payment routing occurs on the Bitcoin Lightning Network, a decentralized protocol. Plaza operates backend infrastructure at pay.plazabtc.com (LNbits + Phoenixd) to facilitate invoice generation.

By the nature of the Lightning Network, payment routing nodes may observe that a payment occurred, but not its origin or destination. Plaza has no control over and no visibility into the broader Lightning Network routing graph.

On-chain settlement and channel management occur between your wallet and the Lightning Network — not through Plaza.

Third Parties

Plaza does not share data with advertisers, data brokers, analytics platforms, or any third party for commercial purposes.

Plaza is built on open protocols (Lightning, Nostr, NWC). Interactions with those networks are governed by their respective designs — Plaza has no backdoor, and all protocol interactions are transparent and auditable.

Apple's TestFlight and App Store distribution platforms are subject to Apple's own privacy policy for app delivery and crash reporting.
